NBA MVP Chase Through October 27, 2019

The MVP ballot has five spots. If i had one, here's how I'd fill mine right now:

1. Karl-Anthony Towns, Timberwolves
2. Trae Young, Hawks
3. Josh Richardson, 76ers
4. LeBron James, Lakers
5. Fred VanVleet, Raptors

Towns's T-Wolves are the only 3-0 team in the league. Young and Richardson lead 2-0 teams, and James and VanVleet's teams are 2-1. What sets them apart from teammates, or players on other two-win teams, is that in each of their victories they led their teams in Minutes Played plus +/-.

Justise Winslow of the Heat has also done that, and would be sixth if the MVP ballot had another spot. My first tie-breaker for players equal in wins and winning percentage is points per game in wins. That's why Young's ahead of Richardson, and James is ahead of VanVleet (and why Winslow's not on the list.)

Breathing down their neck is a host of other players, any of whom may take or share the lead if they win the next game:

6th place: Justise Winslow

7th place tied (no sense in differentiating them unless they crack the Top 5):

Devin Booker
Luka Doncic
Damian Lillard
Donovan Mitchell
Jamal Murray
Jayson Tatum

13th place tied:

Lemarcus Aldridge
DeMar DeRozan
Bryn Forbes
Nikola Jokic
Josh Okogie

Andrew Wiggins
