2019 NFL MVP Chase Entering Week 9: A Lamar Correction

Tonight's Monday Night Fooball game between the Steelers and Dolphins won't affect the MVP race, as it only has players from teams with winning records. I'm therefore posting the rankings today.

An adjustment I've made is for Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. I've added MVP points for victories in which he might not have had an 97 or above passer rating, but did rush for 85 yards. That puts him in the Top Ten.

1. (Tied)

Kirk Cousins, Vikings, 6 points
Michael Thomas, Saints, 6
Russell Wilson, Seahawks 6

4. (Tied)
Chris Carson, Seahawks 5
Dalvin Cook, Vikings 5

6. (Tied)

Tom Brady, Patriots, 4
Amari Cooper, Cowboys, 4
Lamar Jackson, Ravens, 4
Alvin Kamara, Saints 4
Travis Kelce, Chiefs, 4
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs 4

Like most observers, I'd give the nod to Russell Wilson for MVP if the season ended today, based on his overall statistics and ability to win close games (five victories were one-possession games).
