National Championship Race, Week 2

Many FBS teams are 2-0, but that includes a win against a lower-division FCS team. I do not count those wins; a boxer doesn't add to his championship credentials by fighting someone in the next-lower weight class.

Hawaii, in contrast, is 3-0 against the FBS. Only 20 other teams are 2-0 against FBS teams.
Here's how I'm ranking them.  No press, no talk, and no distinction between "Power 5" conference teams and other FBS teams play a role in these rankings, but already we're seeing the prevalence of Power 5 teams; only Hawaii, Boise St, Cincinnati, and Houston aren't Power 5.

I won't go into my methodology, but one may ask why Alabama is only tied for 6th when just about everyone believes the Tide are the best team. It's because their opponents are, combined, winless against FBS competition so far. Things could change next week.

And that's why I'm doing this: to see how things change and if the way I'd trace the path to the playoffs is the way the Selection Committee actually traces the path. Where there are ties in the rankings, the schools are listed alphabetically:

1.Hawaii

2.Ohio St
Oklahoma
Stanford
Washington St

6. Alabama
Boise St
Cincinnati
Houston
Iowa
Vanderbilt
Wisconsin

13. Arizona St
Colorado
Indiana
Penn St

17.Kentucky
Maryland
Minnesota

20. California
21. Notre Dame
