The Daughter Rule

The Daughter Rule of Thumb: if I had a daughter, and if she dated an athlete, my hope is that person is somebody I can root for.

Being likable - being nice - isn't all that difficult. If people say when you're gone, "He was a nice guy" that would be better than if they pause and say"He was who he was." And it really is easier. Being nice is kinda lazy, but only in the sense that avoiding problems is lazy.

Of course, none of that is in my control. If I had a daughter, she'll choose who she'll choose. I just selfishly want to avoid dreading holidays.
